仏教の歴史(ぶっきょうのれきし)は、紀元前6世紀に始まり、今日現存する宗教のなかも最古の部類である。仏教は、ゴータマ・シッダールタの教えを基に、マガダ国(摩訶陀国。梵: Magadha。現在のインドのビハール州に存在)を中心とした古代インドの東部地域において発生した。その後、インド亜大陸の北西部を経て中央アジアや東アジアに展開、また東南アジアにも展開し、各地域の文化に多くの部分に影響をおよぼした。
