国立大学法人が設置する大学。以前は国立学校設置法に基づき国の機関の一部として設置されていたが、2004年4月の国立大学の法人化以降は、国立大学法人法に基づき、独立した法人格をもつ国立大学法人が設置する大学となった。

A university set up by a national university corporation. Due to the incorporation of national universities in 2004, a framework that every national university is set up by the corporation, as a legal entity, was formulated under the National University Corporation Law. Formally, they were operated as governmental organizations based on the Law on the Establishment of National Schools.
