スエズ運河（スエズうんが、قناة السويس qanāt as-suwēs）は、地中海と紅海をスエズ地峡で結び、アフリカとアジアを分断するエジプトの人工海面水路である。1859年から1869年にかけてスエズ運河会社によって建設され、1869年11月17日に正式に開通した。スエズ運河は、地中海と紅海を経由して北大西洋と北インド洋を結ぶ水路で、アフリカ大陸を回らずにヨーロッパとアジアを海運で連結することができる。例えばアラビア海からロンドンまでの航行距離を約8,900km短縮する。2012年には、17,225隻（1日平均47隻）の船舶が運河を通過した。運河は北端のポートサイドと南端のスエズ市タウフィーク港を結び、中間点より北に3キロメートルの運河西岸にはイスマイリアがある[2]。
