疼痛（とうつう、英: Pain、独: Schmerz）とは、痛みを意味する医学用語であり、ここではその生理学的な側面を記述する。一般的には末梢神経への刺激により生じる。

痛みの感覚は哲学者たちにとって、主観的な感覚について議論するための代表的な素材の一つとなっている。痛みに関する情報を伝達するC線維（疼痛）のような神経線維の活動電位と、火傷した皮膚のチリチリした痛みや、虫歯がもたらすズキズキとした感覚との間には、どういう関係があるのか。それは同一性の関係か、または別の種類のたとえば付随性といった関係か、といったことが議論される。ちなみに神経科学者のクリストフ・コッホは虫歯になってその痛みに苦しんでいるときに、「歯痛がなぜ「痛い」のか、自分の持つ生理学の知識では理解できない」と思い、そこから意識の研究者となることを志したという。
