木管楽器の一。金属製で、1枚のリードの振動により発音し、木管楽器と金管楽器の中間のつやのある柔らかな音色をもつ。音域によりアルト・テナーなど多種類があり、吹奏楽やジャズなどでよく用いられる。ベルギー人アドルフ＝サックスが発明。サクソフォン。サックス。

サクソフォーン（英: Saxophone）またはサクソフォン、サキソフォンは、通常は真鍮製で、単簧（シングルリード）マウスピースを使って演奏される木管楽器の一族である[1]。口語ではサックス（sax）と略称で呼ばれる。
注釈
- ^ まれにプラスチックやガラスなどで作ったものもあり、チャーリー・パーカーなど著名演奏家が使った例もある。
- ^ S,A,A,T,Bの5本ものサックスが使用されている。現在でも演奏の機会に恵まれているオーケストラ作品としては異例の規模である。
