アメリカ合衆国への移民（アメリカがっしゅうこくへのいみん、英語: immigration to the United States）とは、アメリカ合衆国に永住しようとする非米国市民の国際的動きである[1]。米国史上、移民は人口増加と文化変容の大部分を担ってきた。

大部分の日本人労働者は、新しい技術を身に着け、帰国前に祖国の家族のために金を稼ぐことを漠然と考えた、いわゆる「出稼ぎ」のつもりで北米へ渡り、移民として定住する意思はなかった。そのほぼ全員が男性であり、農業や鉱業、鉄道建設などで活躍した彼らの多くは、労働者として成功を収めることとなった。 日本で生まれた一世は、自身の文化的な展望を日本に置いていたが、アメリカに住むことを選んだ。彼らは祖国に対する確かな郷愁があったのにも関わらず、遠く離れた異国の地で家を持った。現在のアメリカでは、彼らに当初からアメリカの市民権ないし国籍を与えていれば、殆どの移民がアメリカに定住し続けていただろう、と考えられている。 1913年に制定された「カリフォルニア州外国人土地法」は、アメリカ市民でない者が同国で土地を所有するのを禁じた。この法律では、日本生まれの一世は禁止の対象に含まれたものの、彼らの子供であり、アメリカ国籍を持つ二世は含まれなかった。そのことから、多くの一世は自身の土地の名義を子供のものにすることによって、同法に対抗した。

「コーサ・ノストラ」の記事における「アメリカへの移民」の解説
19世紀末アメリカ政府の移民奨励政策により、イタリアからアメリカへの移民が急増し始めた。ほとんどは南イタリア出身で、自由と成功を夢見て渡ったが、職もなく底辺の生活をした。政治的な保護もなく、移民同士が支え合うゲットー（スラム街）を形成した。多くはニューヨーク等の東海岸に居住したが、次第にシカゴやアメリカ南部等へ広がった。底辺の生活は彼らの一部を犯罪に走らせ、移民には生粋のギャング（シチリア・マフィアやナポリ系カモッラなど）も含まれた。 1890年10月15日、アメリカ南部ニューオーリンズの警察署長デイブ・ヘネシーが何者かに暗殺されるという事件が発生した。犯人はニューオリンズの支配をプロベンツァーノ・ファミリーと争っていたマトランガ・ファミリーであった。彼らはヘネシー署長が敵対していたプロベンツァーノ・ファミリーを庇護していると疑い、彼を殺害した。 捜査の結果、マトランガの構成員たちは逮捕されたが、1891年3月13日、証拠不十分で無罪の判決が下った。この判決に対し、ニューオーリンズ市民は激怒し、「犯人を出せ!」と叫び、マトランガの構成員たちが収監されていた刑務所に押し入り、彼らを集団リンチした。 このニュースはヨーロッパにまで知れ渡り、当時の大統領ベンジャミン・ハリソンがイタリア政府に謝罪し、犠牲者の遺族らに賠償金を支払う事態となった。この事件がアメリカでのマフィアによる初の抗争事件だった。
