本稿ではアメリカ合衆国の外交の歴史を扱う。アメリカ独立戦争から現在までその主要な流れは、「自由の帝国」、民主主義の促進、大陸全体への領土拡大、自由陣営国際主義の促進および第二次世界大戦と冷戦を通じた競合だった。
