めん‐ふくろう〔‐ふくろふ〕【面×梟】

読み方：めんふくろう

フクロウ目メンフクロウ科の鳥。全長約35センチ。頭部は丸く、顔盤が心臓形で白い。上面は褐色、下面は白色。ヨーロッパでは納屋や古城に巣を作ることで知られる。日本にはいない。

メンフクロウ（面梟、学名：Tyto alba） は、フクロウ目メンフクロウ科に分類される鳥類の一種。

  1. ^ 英語圏においてscreech owlは、コノハズク属の鳥に対しても使われている[2]。
  2. ^ "kee-yak"の音訳表記。ちなみにモリフクロウは、縄張りを宣言する際に「ケッウィック」などと聞こえる鳴き声を発する[19]。
  3. ^ 小鳥が群れを作ってつきまとい、嫌がらせをして追い払う行動のこと[25]。擬攻撃とも訳される。
  4. ^ 生物種が広く絶滅する環境下（氷河期など）で、局所的に種が生き残った所をレフュジアという[30]。
