スィルヴィア・メアリー・ライケンス（Sylvia Marie Likens, 1949年 1月3日 – 1965年 10月26日）は、アメリカ人の少女。彼女の両親が世話を依頼したガートルード・バニシェフスキー(Gertrude Baniszewski)とその子供たちから、虐待と拷問の責め苦を受けて殺された。ガートルードは、世話と養育の義務を放棄してスィルヴィアを虐待し、拷問し、最終的に死に至らしめた。スィルヴィアはこの者たちから蔑ろにされ、侮蔑され、性的な辱めを受け、殴打され、飢えさせられ、痛め付けられ、火傷を多数負い、栄養失調および脱水症状に陥った。スィルヴィアに対する虐待と拷問は三ヵ月間に亘って続いた。1965年 10月26日、スィルヴィア・ライケンスの遺体を警察官が発見した^[2]。死後に行われた病理解剖で判明したのは、スィルヴィアの全身は150もの傷で覆われており、その中には打撲の痕、火傷の痕、熱湯をかけられた痕も含まれ、皮膚は糜爛が発生し、ただれていた。スィルヴィアと一緒にガートルードの家に同居していた妹のジェニー・ライケンスは、ガートルードから脅迫され、姉に対する虐待に参加させられたこともあった^[3]。剖検の結果、スィルヴィアの死は、脳の腫れ、脳内出血、硬膜下血腫、広範囲に亘る皮膚の損傷に伴う末梢循環不全に加え、重度の栄養失調を併発したことによる「殺人」と断定された^[4]。
