Google ニュースとは、Googleが提供している、ニュース記事を集めたポータルサイト（ニュースポータル）の名称である。
Google ニュースでは、インターネット上で各ニュースサイトなどから配信されている報道記事をコンピュータが自動的に収集・生成し、記事見出しの一覧として表示されるようになっている。各見出しは配信元のWebサイトにおける記事ページへのリンクとなっており、リンクをたどって各配信元サイトへジャンプし、記事全文を閲覧する仕組みとなっている。
Google ニュースにおける記事収集には、Googleのページランクの仕組みが応用されており、記事の閲覧頻度や掲載サイトの評価といった数多くの評価要素を総合的に分析することで、個々のニュース記事が自動的にランク付けされて分類されるようになっている。
Google ニュースが情報を収集するWebサイトは数百単位に上るといわれている。複数の情報源からのニュースを一覧することができるため、従来のように情報源をあらかじめ特定のサイトに限定することなく、幅広い情報収集が可能となっている。また、同じ情報でも複数のサイトによる記事がリンクすることができるため、思想の偏りを防ぎ、多角的な情報が参照できるとされる。
ニュースの閲覧を効率化するための機能としては、表示されるニュースの種類をカスタマイズできる「パーソナライズド ニュース」や、指定したトピックに関するニュースが配信された際にメールで通知させることができる「Google アラート」などが提供されている。
Google ニュースは、2002年9月に米国でサービスの提供が開始され、2004年9月に日本語版の提供が開始されている。

Google ニュース（Google News）は、Googleが提供するニュースアグリゲーター。Googleのページランクに関連して、Googleの主任研究者である Krishna Bharat が2001年に開発したストーリーランクをベースとして始まった。人間はアグリゲーションのアルゴリズムを調節するだけで、掲載する記事の選択は全て自動的に行われる。2006年1月、Google News ベータ版が登場した[1]。
