グーグル‐グラス【Google Glass】

読み方：ぐーぐるぐらす

2013年に米国グーグル社が開発した眼鏡型のウエアラブル端末。カメラとマイクを備え、レンズの右上部に半透過型の小型ディスプレーがあり、拡張現実技術により目の前の現実の風景に文字や映像を重ね合わせて表示する。音声アシスタントによるハンズフリーの操作が可能。Wi-Fi(ワイファイ)やBluetooth(ブルートゥース)により外部のネットワークと接続し、写真・動画の撮影、メッセージの送信、ネット検索などを行うことができる。

Google Glass

Google Glassとは、Googleが開発するメガネ型のウェアラブルデバイス（スマートグラス）の名称、および、その研究開発プロジェクトの名称である。

Google Glassはメガネの要領で装着するヘッドマウントディスプレイ（HMD）であるが、視界が遮られることはなく、現実世界の景色に重ねてコンピュータによる付加情報を映すことができるARグラスである。2012年6月までに発表されたコンセプト映像では、音声コマンドでGoogle Glassを操作し、さまざまな情報を表示させたり、着用者が見ている視界を他の人と共有したりといった利用方法が紹介されている。

2012年6月に開催されたGoogleのイベント「Google I/O 2012」では、Google I/Oに出席した米国在住の開発者を対象に、Goolge Glassの予約販売の受付を開始することが発表された。2013年2月に開発者を主な対象とした先行発売が開始され、後に個人向け予約も開始、実物が入手可能になった。

Google GlassはGoogleの開発プロジェクトのうち、特に先進的な技術の研究開発に取り組む「Google X Lab」内の一プロジェクトであるとされる。Google Glassの他に「Google Driverless Car」などの開発プロジェクトの存在が知られている。

2015年1月、Googleは、Google Glassの管轄をGoogle XからGoogle本体へ移し、同時にGoogle Glassの販売をいったん終了すると発表した。

Google Glass（グーグル グラス、GLΛSS）とはGoogleがProject Glassという研究開発プロジェクトで開発しているヘッドマウントディスプレイ(HMD)方式の拡張現実ウェアラブルコンピュータである[6]。ユビキタスコンピューティングに向かってさらに一歩前進するために手に持つこと無くどこでもどんな時でもインターネットとコンピュータにアクセスできるようになっている[1]。Google Glassはスマートフォンのような形式でハンズフリーに情報を表示し[7]、自然言語音声コマンドでインターネットを使用することができるようになっている[8]。OSはGoogleのAndroidを使用している[9]。現在フレームに合うレンズが無いため、Googleはレイバン、ワービー・パーカーといったサングラスメーカーとの提携や消費者が試せるように小売店の開設を模索している[1]。
