「perimeter」とは、外周・周辺・境界を意味する英語表現である。
ネットワークセキュリティにおいて「perimeter」の概念が使われている。「ペリメータセキュリティ（perimeter security）」とは、社内と社外のインターネットに境界を設置し、社外からの不正アクセスを遮断する制御方針である。ペリメータセキュリティに代わって、ネットワーク環境の変化から登場したのが「ゼロトラストセキュリティ」。これは、社内か社外かという区分ではなく、脅威となるアクセスを性悪説で検知する方針である。その中で、ネットワークの境界をソフトウェアで構成する技術として「SDP（Software Defined Perimeter）」が提唱されている。
「security perimeter」とは、「セキュリティ境界」を意味するネットワーク用語である。「Avoid data theft and downtime by extending the security perimeter outside the data-center and protect from increasing scale and sophistication of Web attacks.（データセンターの外にセキュリティ境界を拡張することで、データの盗難やダウンタイムを回避し、規模が拡大し巧妙化するWeb攻撃から保護する）」のように使用する。
「transaction perimeter」とは、「取引の境界線」を意味するビジネス用語である。M&Aの開始前に、売却する事業を明確に定義しておくことなどを指す。「A poorly defined and fluid transaction perimeter is guaranteed to cause issues and delays throughout the sale process.（取引境界が流動的で不十分であると、売却プロセスを通じて問題や遅延を引き起こしやすい）」のように用いられる。
「break the perimeter」とは、「境界を突破する」を意味する英熟語である。ネットワークに関して、「They leverage outdated policies or flawed authentication methods to break the perimeter.（彼らは、時代遅れのポリシーや欠陥のある認証方法を利用して、境界を突破するのである）」のように使用する。
「perimeter formula」とは、「外周の公式」を意味する英熟語である。「We can determine the length of a rectangular field or a garden for its fencing using the perimeter formula.（長方形の畑や庭のフェンスの長さは、外周の式で求めることができる）」のように用いられる。
