2010年のロードレース世界選手権は、FIMロードレース世界選手権の第62回大会となる。MotoGPクラスではホルヘ・ロレンソ、新規開始のMoto2クラスではトニ・エリアス、125ccクラスではマルク・マルケスと、グランプリ史上初めてスペイン人ライダーが全クラスでチャンピオンとなった[1]。

レギュレーション変更

  • MotoGPクラスでは高騰する参戦経費を抑えるため、テスト走行距離の削減、長寿命エンジンの導入、カーボンに代わり鋳鉄製ブレーキの採用、スペアマシンを1台に制限[2]、金曜のプラクティスセッションの廃止[3]等のレギュレーション変更が適用された。
  • 2010年シーズンよりMotoGPクラスにおいて、ルーキーはワークスチームからの参戦が禁止され、プライベートチームからのデビューが義務づけられた。ただしスズキはサテライトチームを持たないため、この制限から除外されている[4]。

Moto2クラスの開始

2010年シーズンより、それまでの250ccクラスに代わって新たにMoto2クラスが始まった。2010年は移行時期として、新しいMoto2規格のマシンと従来の250ccマシンの混走となる[5]予定だったが、エントリーはMoto2マシンのみとなった。Moto2クラスはコスト抑制を重視しており、電子制御部品が制限(FIM認可のメーカーから供給される予定)され、またカーボンブレーキが禁止となりスチールブレーキを使用することとなる。しかしながら、シャシーについては制限は加えられておらず[6]、日本からはモリワキ、テクニカルスポーツ、バーニングブラッドがオリジナルシャシーを供給する[7]。すべてのMoto2マシンは、ホンダが独占供給する600ccエンジンの使用が義務づけられる[5]。このエンジンは後藤治率いるゲオ・テクノロジー社がメンテナンスを担当し[8]、120 - 125馬力程度のパワーを出すことが予想されている[9]。タイヤについては、当初は従来と同様に自由に選択できる予定だったが、結局コントロールタイヤ制 (ダンロップのワンメイク) を導入することとなった[10]。

新クラスの開幕戦を制したのは日本の富沢祥也だったが、その富沢は第12戦サンマリノGPで事故死してしまう。グランプリでライダーが犠牲となるのは、2003年の鈴鹿での加藤大治郎以来である[11]。

グランプリ

2009年11月10日、暫定カレンダーが発表された[12]。予定されているサーキットでのグランプリがキャンセルになった場合の代替開催地として、スペインのモーターランド・アラゴンが指定されていた。またカレンダーは6日後に修正され、チェコGPの開催が1週早くなった[13]。

2010年3月18日、バラトンリンクの建設工事が間に合わないことから、2年連続でハンガリーGPがキャンセルとなり、モーターランド・アラゴンでの代替開催が実現することとなった[14][15][16]。

2010年4月19日、当初の予定では4月23 - 25日に第2戦として開催予定だった日本GPは、アイスランドのエイヤフィヤトラヨークトルの噴火によって大規模な空路封鎖が発生し、ライダーやチーム関係者の移動が困難となったため[17]、10月1 - 3日に開催延期となった[18]。
