フランチェスコ・バニャイアはマレーシアグランプリでタイトルを確定した。

2018年のMoto2シーズンは、FIMロードレース世界選手権の第70回大会の中量級クラスとなる。フランコ・モルビデリがディフェンディングチャンピオンであるが、MotoGPクラスにステップアップした。

2018年シーズンはホンダ・CBR600RRの直列4気筒エンジンを使用する最終のシーズンである。同エンジンは2010年シーズンから使用されてきた。2019年シーズンからはトライアンフ製765cc直列3気筒エンジンが使用される。

第18戦マレーシアグランプリでフランチェスコ・バニャイアが3位に入り、2018年のタイトルを獲得した。ミゲル・オリベイラがランキング2位、チームメイトのブラッド・ビンダーが3位となった。

シーズン途中の変更

チームの変更

  • NTSは2014年から2017年までワイルドカードコンストラクターとして参戦していたが、2018年シーズンにMoto2でのフル参戦を果たす。RWレーシングGPがカレックスからチェンジしてマシンの供給を受ける。RWレーシングGPは2台体勢に拡大する。
  • フォワード・レーシングチームとダイナボルト・インタクトGPはマシンを変更する。フォワードは2012年以来6年振りにスッターを使用する。インタクトGPは前年にスッターへスイッチしたが、再びカレックスを使用する。
  • タスカ・レーシング・スクーデリアMoto2は2018年シーズン、2台体制に拡大する。
  • CGBMエヴォリューションとキーファー・レーシングはそれぞれカレックスとスッターからKTMにマシンをスイッチした。
  • マリネリ・スナイパーズ・チームはMoto2にステップアップし、カレックスのマシンを使用する。
  • AGRチームは2017年のアラゴングランプリを以てMoto2およびMoto3から撤退した。これは2017年シーズンを通じて財務上の問題が解消できず、パフォーマンスも向上しなかったためである。
  • ペトロナスとセパン・インターナショナル・サーキットはパートナーシップを形成し、SICレーシングチームがMoto2に復帰する。チームは2014年シーズン、「ケータハム・モト・レーシングチーム」として参戦していた[31][32]。
  • キーファー・レーシングは財政上の問題により、2018年シーズンの体制を1台に縮小した。2台目のマシンに乗る予定であったサンドロ・コルテセは結果として契約解除となった。

カレンダーの変更

  • イギリスグランプリはシルバーストン・サーキットから新設のサーキット・オブ・ウェールズ（英語版）に移る予定だったが、建設はまだ開始されていない[52]。2つのサーキットは、シルバーストンが2018年のレースを開催するオプション契約に合意した[53]。結局イギリスグランプリは、レース当日の危険なトラックコンディションのため、3つのレースすべてがキャンセルされ、代替レースは行われなかった。
  • タイグランプリはカレンダーに新たに追加されたもので、10月7日にレースが予定されている。
  • カタルーニャグランプリでは新しいコースレイアウトが使用された。以前のターン13、14、15コーナーのセットは大きな右コーナーにまとめられた。この新しいレイアウトは、2004年から2006年までフォーミュラ1で使用されていた。
