姉妹の母方の祖父母。いずれも故人。姉妹が石田写真館で店頭に飾る写真のモデルの臨時バイトをした際、25年ほど前にも姉妹の母である佳子とその家族に写真のモデルになってもらったことがあると伝えられ、譲り受けた撮影当時の写真に写っている。いずれも交通事故により他界しており、この祖父母の交通事故による死去が、佳子・未来姉妹の運命を大きく変えるきっかけとなった。佳子が山田家に嫁いだのか、逆に週が婿養子として山田家に入籍したのかについては一切触れられておらず、苗字が「山田」であるとは断定できないため、苗字は不明。

詳細は「祖父母」を参照 祖父母（そふぼ、grandparent）は男女をそれぞれ祖父・祖母（そふ・そぼ、grandfather/grandmother）と呼び、2親等の直系親族である。親の親や、自分の配偶者の親（義親）の親を指す。「おじいさん」「おばあさん」ともいう。年齢的には、高年期と限らず中年期にも祖父・祖母となるのは基本的であること。 配偶者側（姻族）の場合と祖父母の再婚相手や親の養親、親の再婚相手や養父母の父母も本人とは義理の関係にあたる。 配偶者から見ると大舅（おおじゅうと）・大姑（おおじゅうとめ）である。

ナディアの父親のエド・ダウド・スールマンはナディアとその14人の子供達を養うため、翻訳者やドライバーとして出稼ぎを決意し、母国であるイラクに戻ることになると話した。彼は過去にイラク軍に所属していたと自証している。 ナディアの母親のアンジェラ・スールマンは2008年3月に自己破産を申請した。彼女はインタビューの中で元教師であり、ナディアの最初の6人の子供達を養育してきて疲れ切っていると話している。ナディアがさらに大多数の子供を出産するとは思いもしなかったことを明かしており、孫達の養育への協力は惜しまないとしながらも、家の経済事情などを考慮しない娘の無責任ぶりを批判している。また、ナディアがおもちゃのための出費は惜しまないが、家賃や食費の負担軽減には一切寄与していないとも話している。
