赤色超巨星[1]（せきしょくちょうきょせい、red supergiant star[1]）とは、直径が太陽の数百倍から千倍以上あり、明るさは太陽の数千倍以上（全エネルギー放射は太陽の3万倍以上）ある恒星のこと。

「赤色超巨星」および「ウォルフ・ライエ星#主系列からの進化」も参照 赤色超巨星は、主系列から外れて大きく膨張し、冷却された大質量星である。光度が高く表面重力が小さいため、外層から急速に質量を失っている。最も明るい赤色超巨星は、質量が急速に失われて高温となり、小さくなる。大質量星では、このようにして赤色超巨星の段階から永久に離れて青色超巨星に進化することもあるが、場合によってはブルーループを経て赤色超巨星に戻ることもある。

スペクトル型がK型 - M型及びC型（R型 - N型）のオレンジ色ないし赤く輝く超巨星。赤色巨星のうち特に光度・直径の大きいものと考えられる。殆どの赤色超巨星は脈動変光星として観測され、そのうち規則性のあるものはSRC型に、規則性がないものはLC型に分類される。
