AT2018cow

AT2018cow[1][2]は、2018年6月16日(UT、以下日時は全て同様)にヘルクレス座の方角およそ2億光年の距離にある系外銀河CGCG 137-068の中とみられる位置で発見された、一般的な超新星の少なくとも10倍の明るさがある極めてエネルギーの高い突発天体である[4]。AT2018cowを発見したのは、小惑星地球衝突最終警報システム(ATLAS、アトラス)チームで、ハワイに設置された50cm望遠鏡を使って検出した[1]。AT2018cowは、発見が報告されるとすぐに世界中の天文学者から注目を集め、過去最大規模の全世界的な観測促進運動が展開された[9]。
