「notion」とは、考え・概念・気持ちということを意味する英語表現である。
「notion」とは・「notion」の意味
「notion」とは、「（～についての）考え」や、「（～という）概念、意見」を意味する英単語である。「idea」とほぼ同じ意味であるが、まだ固まっていない不完全な考え、「気まぐれ」や「むら気」なども指す。その他、「見解」「意向」、「（～したいと突然抱く）気持ち、思いつき」などの意味もある。品詞は名詞で、「notion」の派生語には、形容詞「notional」があり、「（知識などが）概念的な」「（物事など）想像上の」「名目上の」などの意味がある。また、形容詞「notional」の派生語として、副詞「notionally」があり、「名目上」「概念上」「理論上」の意味である。複数形の「notions」は、裁縫などに使う「小間物」を意味し、ピンや針、糸やボタンなどを指す。「a notions store」は、小間物店である。「notion」の用法は、「notion that(節)」で、「(～という)考え」や「意見」の意味となる。また、「～という考え」を表す場合、多くの人の考えのときは「the」を使い、自分自身や彼、彼女自身などのときには「a」を使う。その他、「notion of～」は「（～の）意向、意思」を意味する。「notion to do」は、「（～したい）意向、気持ち」を表す意味となる。
「notion」の語源・由来
「notion」は、ラテン語「認知」の意味である。原義は「知られたもの」から「考え」の意味となる。「notion」の語源は、ラテン語の「nōscō（知る、知るようになる）である。また、「nōscō」の語源は、インド・ヨーロッパ祖語の「gno(知る）」である。「知る、知っている」から「知ること、認識する、考える」という意味となり、現在の「notion（概念、考え）」の意味につながっている。notice（通知、掲示）も同じ語源である。「notion」の使い方・例文

Notionは、クロスプラットフォームのフリーミアムのメモ取りウェブアプリである。タスク管理、Todoリスト、ブックマークなどの機能があり、Windows、macOS、Android、iOSで動作するソフトウェアもある[2]。
なお、Notionの日本語表記は「ノーション」である。[3]
歴史
Notion Labs Inc. は、2013年に "Ivan Zhao", "Chris Prucha", "Jessica Lam", "Simon Last", "Toby Schachman" に拠って設立された、サンフランシスコに拠点を置くスタートアップ企業である。
主な投資家の2人は、アメリカの起業家でありベンチャーキャピタリストのジョシュ・コペルマン(Josh Kopelman)と、Google創業時の取締役会の役員および最初の投資家の1人であるラム・シュリラムである。
2018年6月 Androidの公式アプリがリリース[4]。
2019年7月 同社はシリーズAにおいて1,000万ドルを調達[5]。
2021年9月7日 Notionはハイデラバードを拠点とするスタートアップ Automate.io を買収した。同年10月、Coatue ManagementとSequoia Capitalが率いる新たな資金調達ラウンドにより、Notionは2億7500万ドルを調達した[6] 。この投資額はNotionを100億ドルと評価し、同社は合計2000万人のユーザーを抱えていた[7]。
2022年 Notionは、ユーザーが専門知識を拡大できる公式認定プログラムであるNotion Certified Programを開始した。Notionはまた、顧客と積極的にセキュリティ情報を共有することを誓約したハイテク企業の連合体であるSecurity First Initiativeにも参加した[8][9] 。
2022年6月 NotionはカレンダーソフトウェアCronを買収し、生産性アプリのスイートに追加した[10]。
2022年11月 Notionが日本語に正式対応する[11]。
2023年2月 Notionのワークスペース上で利用できるAIサービス「Notion AI」をリリースする[12]。
ソフトウェア
タスク、Wiki、およびデータベースを統合するMarkdownサポートを備えたメモアプリケーション及びサービス。 同社はこのアプリを、メモ作成、プロジェクト管理、タスク管理のためのオールインワンワークスペースと説明している[13]。 オールインワンワークスペース上のファイルマネジメントツールとして、ユーザーが進行中のプロジェクトにコメントしたり、ディスカッションに参加したり、フィードバックを受け取ったりできる[14]。 同社によって提供されるクロスプラットフォームアプリに加えて、ほとんどのWebブラウザーからアクセス可能である[15]。
