「interface」は、二つのシステムや部品が互いに通信・連携するための接点や境界面を指す言葉である。コンピュータ分野では、ハードウェアやソフトウェアの相互作用を可能にする機能や仕組みを意味する。また、ユーザーとコンピュータシステムとの間で情報をやり取りするためのデバイスや画面（ユーザーインターフェース）も指すことがある。

「interface」の発音は、/ˈɪntərfeɪs/であり、IPAのカタカナ読みでは「インターフェイス」となる。日本人が発音するカタカナ英語では「インターフェース」と読む。

（1）異なる概念的領域がつながる接点部分を指す語。英語の名詞であり、訳語としては「接点」の語が充てられることが多い。
（2）IT関連の分野において、コンピュータと周辺機器のような複数のシステム間を接続する装置や仕組みを、あるいは、コンピュータの入出力とユーザー（人間）との設定に相当する操作機器や画面表示の体系などを指す言い方。前者は「接続インターフェース」、後者は「ユーザーインターフェース」と呼ばれることが多い。
