Sandy Bridge

Sandy Bridgeとは、Intelが「IDF 2010」で発表した次世代のマイクロアーキテクチャである。
Sandy Bridgeは、2008年に登場し現在のCoreシリーズ(「Core i3」「Core i5」「Core i7」)で採用されている「Nehalem」アーキテクチャに代わるアーキテクチャである。大きな特徴として以下4つの点を挙げることができる。すなわち、Sandy BridgeではGPUをCPUと同じCPUダイに搭載したこと、「AVX」（Advanced Vector Extension）と名づけられた命令セットを初めてサポートすること、処理や電力量に応じてクロック周波数を制御する「Turbo Boost」、などである。
2010年9月時点では、Sandy Bridgeは2011年の第1四半期に市場に登場すると予測されている。

Sandy Bridgeマイクロアーキテクチャ（サンディブリッジ マイクロアーキテクチャ）とは、インテルによって開発されたNehalemマイクロアーキテクチャに継ぐマイクロプロセッサのマイクロアーキテクチャであり、第二世代Coreプロセッサーとして製品化されている。第二世代Coreプロセッサーという言葉は、IntelがSandy Bridgeマイクロアーキテクチャで初めて用いた言葉であり、CoreマイクロアーキテクチャとNehalemマイクロアーキテクチャのCoreブランドのプロセッサは、前世代Coreプロセッサーと定義している。このことから、AVX命令セットの追加が第二世代Coreプロセッサーの定義だと推定される。特にCore ixプロセッサの世代を区別する場合は、Sandy Bridgeマイクロアーキテクチャを第二世代Core ixプロセッサー、Nehalemマイクロアーキテクチャを前世代Core ixプロセッサーと区別している。Xeon、第二世代Core i7、第二世代Core i5、第二世代Core i3、Pentium、Celeronのブランドで商品提供している。
