除氷

除氷 (じょひょう、英語: De-Icing) とは、物の表面から雪や氷、霜を取り除くことである。これに対して防氷 (ぼうひょう、英語: Anti-Icing) とは、除氷するだけでなく、物の表面にとどまって氷の再凝固を遅らせたり、機械的に取り除きやすいように氷の固着を防いだりする化学薬品を利用することである。

気温が氷点下に達する上空では、水分が凍結し、ピトー管や静圧孔を閉塞してしまう可能性がある。速度や高度システムの指示が異常となり、事故に繋がる危険性がある。これを防ぐために、電熱線などによる防氷システムが備えられていることが多い。

プロペラに限らず、気温の低い高空を飛行するために、飛行機の機体前面には氷が張ることがあるため、防氷ブーツが取り付けられる。プロペラの場合、ブレード表面、特に前縁付近に氷が張ると翼型や回転バランスが変わってしまい効率低下や振動の原因となるが、ブーツを膨らませる形式ではバランスが崩れるため、プロペラ内側に電熱線を挟んだゴムを装備するものが主流である。電力はスリップリングを通して供給される。他に薬品や加熱空気を用いる方式もある。
