SPDY: An experimental protocol for a faster web - （Chromium Developer Documentation. 英語）
SPDYとは、Googleが開発した、Webページの表示を高速化するためのプロトコルである。2009年11月12日に公式ブログで発表された。2015年にSPDYのサポート終了が宣言されている。
SPDYは、OSI参照モデルにおけるアプリケーション層に位置するプロトコルである。データストリームの多重化、リクエストへの優先順の付与、HTTPヘッダの圧縮などを行うことでレイテンシを削減し、それによってWeb上のコンテンツの送受信にかかる時間の短縮を図るものである。
SPDYは2009年11月12日に公式ブログで発表された。発表時すでにSPDY対応のGoogle Chromeが開発されている。SPDY対応版Google Chromeのコードは、Google Chromeの開発プロジェクトを通じてダウンロードできた。2015年2月、GoogleはChromeのSPDYのサポートを終了する方針を発表、HTTPの次期バージョンであるHTTP/2のサポートに移行する旨を明らかにした。

SPDY（スピーディー[1]）は、Google が提唱している World Wide Web の通信プロトコル。HTTP/2 の起草となった。最後のバージョンはSPDY Protocol - Draft 3.1[2]。SPDY は 3.1 が最後のバージョンとなり、SPDY/4 は HTTP/2 に吸収された。
