帝国単位

帝国単位（ていこくたんい、imperial units, imperial system, British Imperial[1]）とは、1824年にイギリスの度量衡法によって初めて定められ、それ以降イギリスおよび旧イギリス帝国（イギリス連邦諸国）で使用されている、または使用されていた単位系である。日本においてヤード・ポンド法と呼ばれているものの一種である。
注釈
- ^ 1ファゾムの正確な数字は6.08フィートであるが、6フィートが実施には使われていた。一般に認められた1ファゾムの定義は、常に6フィートだった。海軍本部の海図では5ファゾムまでの深度しか表示していなかったので、この違いはそれほど重要ではなかった。今日、世界中で使用されている海図はメートル法による。ただし、アメリカ合衆国水路局の海図だけは、深度にフィートを使用している。
- ^ 海里は（初期のメートルの定義のように）地球の円周に関連して定義されたので、他の帝国単位との比率が6080という中途半端な値になっている。
