工学

工学(こうがく、英: engineering)またはエンジニアリングとは、基礎科学である数学・化学・物理学などを工業生産に応用する学問[1][2][3]。「真理の探究」を目指す基礎科学と「実用」を目指す工学の違いは絶対的ではなく[4]、例えば電子工学や薬品生産などがあると『日本大百科全書』は述べている[4][注釈 1]。これらの分野では、基礎科学・基礎研究の成果が応用科学・研究開発の中へと直接組み込まれている[4]。
