罹病 ¹の研究は、ある人口における病気 ²や疾病 ²を扱うものである。新たな疾病の発生件数 ⁵を考えるか、ある時点における疾病件数を考えるかによって、疾病の発生 ³と疾病の罹患 ⁴という二つの側面が考慮される。罹病統計 ⁶の作成は健康と病的状態 ⁷の明確な区別がないために困難を伴う。疾病分類表 ⁸および疾病分類学 ⁹はそれぞれ疾病の分類と記述に貢献している。
