メデューズ号の筏

『メデューズ号の筏』（メデューズごうのいかだ、フランス語: Le Radeau de la Méduse）は1818年〜1819年、フランスロマン主義派の画家・版画家テオドール・ジェリコーによる油彩画で、フランスパリのルーブル美術館に所蔵されている。ジェリコーが27歳の時の作品であり、フランス・ロマン主義の象徴となった。本作は、大きさ 491 cm × 716 cm [1]、実物大の絵画で、フランス海軍のフリゲート艦メデューズ号が難破した際に起きた事件を表している。

- ^ 他のボートはばらばらになり、ほとんどはセネガルのセント・ルイス島に流れ着いた。幾艘かは上陸し海岸に沿って進んだが、熱と飢餓によっていくつかのグループを失った。42日後に英国に救助された時、メデューズ号に残る選択をした17人の内、まだ生き残っていたのはわずか3人であった。
