ウコン（鬱金、欝金、宇金、郁金、玉金）は、ショウガ科ウコン属の多年草。学名 Curcuma longa [ syn. C. domestica ]。英語名ターメリック (turmeric)[1]。インドが原産であり、紀元前からインドで栽培されている。「鬱金」の原義は「鮮やかな黄色」。呉音「ウッコン」が転訛しウコンとなった[2]。
