「鶏が先か、卵が先か」（にわとりがさきか、たまごがさきか）という因果性のジレンマは、平たく言えば「ニワトリとタマゴのどちらが先にできたのか」という問題である。昔の哲学者にとってこの疑問は、生命とこの世界全体がどのように始まったのかという疑問に行き着くものだった[1]。
