Interviewer "Why are you taking part in the Chopin competition?" インタビュアー「なぜショパンコンクールに参加するのですか。」 Georgijs "Because for me this particular competition is very special. It's very specific because it consist mainly of works of Frédéric Chopin. I adore this composer and for last 1 or 2 years I was playing only his music. In fact in my home town Riga, I gave the very first monographic recital of his works. And it was for the first (time) for my country. So also in my country I'm popularizing his music and as I said I'm in love with this composer and I cannot ignore this competition because it's very special for me." ゲオルギス 「このコンペティションはとても特別だからです。明確なことですが、ショパンの作品だけが取り扱われます。私はこの作曲家に惚れ込んでいますし、ここ1年か2年は彼の曲だけを弾いてきました。実際、故郷のリガで初めてショパンに絞った演奏会を開きました。これは自分の国では初のことです。祖国で彼の曲を広めているところですし、言ったようにこの作曲家に惚れ込んでいますから、このコンペティションを無視できなかったのです。私にとって特別なコンペティションなのです。」 Interviewer "How does the Chopin competition differ from other piano competitions?" インタビュアー「ショパンコンクールは他とどう違いますか。」 Georgijs "The major difference is of course the program. And because it's very hard to find your own path in only one composer style because you have to analyze his music, you have to know Poland, you have to know Polish people you have to know Polish folklore in order to understand what he meant to say. And for me it's very important to know his language, know every his piece in order to understand his style, he is an artist so, his art. And this-wise it's very different from other competitions. On other competitions you can pick what ever you like, every composer and every composition. And it's also a goal. But here you must show the wide spectrum of emotions only of one composer. For me, it's very breathtaking and also very interesting. So this-wise this competition is so different." ゲオルギス 「もちろん主な違いは曲構成です。作曲家一人だけの曲を弾く中、自分のスタイルを見出すことはとても難しい。というのも彼の音楽を分析していく必要があって、ポーランドという国を知る必要があって、ポーランド人についても知る必要があって、それに彼らの民俗についても知らなければなりません。彼の表現しようとしたことを解するためです。私からすれば非常に重要なのは、彼の言語を知ること、彼の作品すべてを知っておくことです。彼の表現法なり精神や芸術を理解するためです。この意味で他のコンペティションとは大きく違うのです。他のコンペティションであれば好きな曲や好きな作曲家を選ぶことができます。それはそれで一つの関門ではありますが。しかしこのコンペティションでは作曲家たった一人、彼の一連の感情を表現しなければならないのです。はっとさせられますし興味深いものです。こういう方向で他とは大きく違います。」 Interviewer "What is the most difficult thing about being a pianist?" インタビュアー「ピアニストであるのに最も困難なことはなんですか。」 Georgijs "I think improvising on the stage is because it's a very difficult nature of performance. You have some relax days, you have nervous days and you have to improvise in order to find your path which will abstract from all other things, which you will concentrate and it will help you as a performer. So for me the major thing is improvising on the stage. And maybe the option of improvising might be very broad, It might be moral things, emotional things, it might be technical things. So your hands must improvise, head or brain must improvise. Nature of your health must improvise because you might be also ill or cured in the day of performance or strong and relaxed and really in a form. When you are out of form it's very difficult to find your own path So maybe it's one of the most difficult things for pianists or an artist." ゲオルギス 「私は舞台上での即興だと思います。というのも即興が演奏のたどり着き難い本質だからです。おちついた日もあればないかと気に障る日もある。即興によって自分のスタイルを見つけなければなりません。そのスタイルが集中を乱すものをどけて演奏者の助けとなるのです。ですから私にとって大事なのは舞台上での即興です。それから即興の項目は広い範囲にわたります。考え方や精神的なものかもしれませんし技術的なものかもしれません。手でも頭でも即興しなければなりませんし健康という本質面も影響するでしょう。演奏中の体調は悪いことも良いこともありますよね。体調が悪ければ自分のスタイルを見出すことはとても難しくなります。なのでピアニストであったり芸術家にとっては健康も最も難しいことかもしれません。」 Interviewer "How would you describe your participation in the competition in three words?" インタビュアー 「自身のコンペティションへの参加を3つの言葉で表現するなら。」 Georgijs "Taking risks, improvising and capture the atmosphere of the hall. ゲオルギス 「リスクを取ること、即興すること、それからホールの空気をものにすることです。」
