『残酷の4段階』^[1]（ざんこくのよんだんかい、英: The Four Stages of Cruelty）は、イングランドの芸術家ウィリアム・ホガースが1751年に出版した4枚組のエングレービング（版画）集である。それぞれの作品では、架空の人物であるトム・ネロ（英: Tom Nero）の人生の一幕が切り取られている。

^ ベルのオリジナル印刷2枚1組は、グラスゴー大学のハンテリアン博物館・美術館（英語版）によって、2005年に1,600ポンドで買い取られている^[13]。
^ テイラーの経歴や没年に関してはいくつかの説がある。初期の作品で、ポールソンは彼をブラウトンの弟子とし、彼との戦いで1750年に殺されたとしており、テート・ギャラリーに収蔵されているホガースのスケッチも、1750年頃の作品と記録されている^[23]。一方で『ホガースの「売春婦」』（英: Hogarth's "Harlot"）では、テイラーが1750年に引退したが、1757年に最後の戦いを行い、ひどく打ちのめされて、戦傷から数ヶ月後に亡くなったとの記載がある。多くの記録では、テイラーのタイトル保持は1730年代中盤とされている。
