ブラック・ダリア事件（ブラック・ダリアじけん、英語: Black Dahlia Murder）とは、1947年にアメリカ合衆国で発生した殺人事件である。
- ^ 犯罪歴史家のダーク・ギブソン（英: Dirk Gibson）はこの事件を、第二次世界大戦後に国中の関心を惹き付け、非常に話題になった最初の事件の一つと評している[3]。一方で、著述家のジーニ・グレアム・スコット（英: Gini Graham Scott）は著書American Murderで、この事件を1990年代中頃に起きたO・J・シンプソン事件という非常に話題になった事件になぞらえている[4]。
- ^ 様々な情報源でショートの正式な氏名は単に"Elizabeth Short"と表記されている。公式の出生証明書の複写もこの表記である。このことから、ショートは誕生時にミドルネームが与えられなかったと考えられる[5][6][7]。
- ^ アメリカでは、未成年と扱われなくなる成年は長年の標準では21歳だったが、現在は18歳である。1970年代になるまで成年は21歳のままだった[19][20]。
- ^ ショートはしばしば女優志願者として言及されたり特徴付けられたりする[29][13]。しかし、女優の仕事をしていた、クレジットに名前が出ていた、というような事例は知られていない。
- ^ ジーニ・グレアム・スコットは著書American Crimeで、1月9日にショートがビルトモア・ホテルで目撃されたと記している[26]。しかし、1997年のロサンゼルス・タイムズの記事でこの説の信憑性に疑問が呈されている。記事によれば、当時、死の直前のいわゆる「ミッシング・ウィーク」で誰かがショートと接触したという話は考えられる限り全てがニュースで報じられていたが、加熱していたニュースの中に、ショートがビルトモア・ホテルで目撃されたという話は発見できなかったという[30]。
- ^ ショートの検死の結果によると、下歯は著しく悪化した虫歯になっていたという。ジョン・ギルモアは著書Severedで、ショートは虫歯の穴に蝋を詰めていたと言われていると記した。懐疑論があるものの、この記述は1997年のロサンゼルス・タイムズの記事にも転載されている[30]。
