フォーク歌手

読み方：フォークかしゅ

フォークソングに区分される曲を主に歌っている歌手、という意味で用いられる表現。

フォークソングは、音楽ジャンルの区分としては、おおむね民謡調の曲に世俗的な生活や感情を想起させる歌詞を乗せて歌う大衆音楽を指す。基本的に電子楽器は用いられず、フォークギター、アコースティックギター、あるいはそれに類するバンジョーのような弦楽器が用いられることが多い。

場合によっては「フォーク歌手」は「フォークソングを歌う歌手」というよりも「フォークギターの伴奏に乗せて歌う歌手」という意味合いで用いられていることもある。

フォークシンガー (Folk singer) とは、フォークソングを歌う歌手のことである。
