ヴィシュヌ(梵: विष्णु Viṣṇu)は、ヒンドゥー教の神である。ブラフマー、シヴァとともにトリムルティの1柱を成す重要な神格であり[1][2][注 1]、特にヴィシュヌ派では最高神として信仰を集める[4][5]。
注釈
- ^ 古代の文献ではヴィシュヌの含まれない3柱を最高神の3人組に数えているものもある[1][2]。ヤン・ホンダはヒンドゥー教のトリムルティというコンセプトは、アグニという1柱の神の持つ3つの性格についての古代の宇宙論的な、儀式的な思索から発展したのではないかとしている。アグニは3度、あるいは3倍誕生し、3倍の光であり、3つの体と3つの地位を持つとされている[3](アグニは火であり光であり日である)。一般的なトリムルティとされるブラフマー、ヴィシュヌ、シヴァの他には古代や中世の文献には「インドラ、ヴィシュヌ、ブラフマナスパティ」や、「アグニ、インドラ、スーリヤ」、「アグニ、ヴァーユ、アーディティヤ」、「マハーラクシュミー、マハーサラスヴァティ、マハーカーリー」等といった組み合わせが見られる[1][2]。
