ゾウによる踏み付け

ゾウによる踏み付け（ゾウによるふみつけ）は、東南アジアや南アジア、特にインドで一般的であった死刑方法である。公開処刑の場にて、アジアゾウが囚人の手足を寸断または拷問した。ゾウたちは訓練されて多才であり、囚人をすぐに殺すことも、あるいは長時間にわたってゆっくり拷問することもできた。ゾウの多くは王族に飼育されていた。処刑をするゾウたちは、絶対君主制統治者の権力と、野生動物を支配する能力の両方を知らしめる役割を果たした。
