ガラパゴスゾウガメは、爬虫綱リクガメ科ナンベイリクガメ属に分類されるカメのうちガラパゴス諸島産の複数種上野動物園でイッパイうごいたリクガメはマジうまいw(公式)

- ^ 出典につけた論文では「Galápagos giant tortoises can be classified into 15 species based on genetic data.」（訳：ガラパゴスゾウガメは遺伝子データに基づいて15種に分類できる。）とあるが、この記述の出典となっている論文（N. Poulakakis, et al. 2015）では単に「taxa」（分類群）として記載されている。
- ^ ただし、この説を証明するようなデータはなく、Ylenia Chiariらは食性以外の選択圧が働いている可能性を考えている。2017年のChiariらの論文ではひっくり返ったカメが自力で起き上がる能力について検証し、鞍型のカメの生息地である乾燥地は地面の凹凸が大きくひっくり返るリスクが高いため、首や足をより長く伸ばせるようになるなど自力で起き上がる能力を高めるように進化し適応したのだとしている[16]。

- ^ 英語名は「Eastern Santa Cruz Giant Tortoise」、「Cerro Fatal Giant Tortoise」[26]であり、この2つを他のガラパゴスゾウガメを参考に意訳すると「東サンタクルスゾウガメ」、「セロ・ファタルゾウガメ」となる。また、学名を同様に意訳すると「ファウストゾウガメ」になるが、本種の論文が公開された2015年10月当時の『AFPBB NEWS』[27]、『ナショナルジオグラフィック』[28]では「ファウストガメ」という和訳が使用されている。
- ^ 『ワシントン・ポスト』の記事では1900年から1959年の間、『トロント・スター』の記事ではガラパゴス国立公園の保護計画の責任者Washington Tapiaの発言を引用して1900年から1930年の間とされている。
