近視（きんし）は、屈折異常のひとつで、眼球内に入ってきた平行光線が、調節力を働かせていない状態で、網膜上の正しい位置ではなく、もっと手前に焦点を結んでしまう状態。近眼（きんがん、ちかめ）ともいう。
注釈
- ^ 逆に言えば、小学生の3/4近く、中学生の1/2近くは遠視であるということである。正視は近視と遠視の狭間の狭い範囲でしかないので少数しか居らず、近視でない者は殆どが遠視と考えられる。ただし、軽度の遠視は若いうちは矯正の必要がなく、本人も自分が遠視であることすら知らないことが多い。
