きずな〔きづな〕
JAXA(宇宙航空研究開発機構)と情報通信研究機構が共同開発した通信衛星WINDS(ウインズ)の愛称。平成20年(2008)2月に打ち上げ。アジア・太平洋地域の離島や山間地域における高速・大容量のデータ通信サービスの提供、災害時の通信手段の確保、遠隔診断などを目的とする。一般家庭向けに下り155Mbps、上り6Mbps、直径5メートルクラスのアンテナを利用すると、最大1.2Gbpsのデータ通信を行うことができる。
