ニップル（またはニップール。Nippur）は古代メソポタミアの都市。シュメールにおける嵐の神エンリル神崇拝の中心地であり、その宗教的重要性のために古代の王たちによって争奪が繰り返された。ハンムラビ王の死後の内戦により、前18世紀には荒廃して途絶えた。前9世紀以降、新アッシリア帝国の下で再建され、セレウコス朝時代まで重要な都市として存続したが、サーサーン朝時代（3世紀-7世紀）には衰退し小村落となり、9世紀-10世紀頃に人々の居住は終わった。

- ^ この神名と地名は人名の構成要素として使用される場合などにはしばしば互換的な用いられ方をした。シュメール語やアッカド語では人名の一部として神の名が頻繁に用いられたが、ニブルタ・ル（「ニップルからきた男（児）」）のような人名においては EN.LÍLKI（ニップル）という地名をdEN.LÍLと置き換えることができた[3]。
- ^ アマル・シン以降のウル第3王朝の王は首都ウル、父祖の地ウルク、聖都ニップルを月単位で巡幸し、それぞれの神々に犠牲を捧げた。これは神々への祭儀権を王が特権として保持していることを示すものであり、特にニップルのエンリル神への犠牲奉納は最も重視された[20]。
