lighttpdとは、Jan Kneschkeが開発したWebサーバーソフトウェアの名称である。BSDライセンスでフリーソフトウェアとして公開されている。
lighttpdは、他の一般的なWebサーバーソフトウェアに比べて、高速かつセキュアであると評価されている。メモリ消費量が少なく、CPU負荷も抑えることができるため、サーバーの過負荷を抑えて安定した運用ができる。
2012年1月現在、lighttpdはUNIX向け、Windows向けのパッケージが配布されている。また、lighttpdのWebサイト上では、lighttpdを採用しているWebサイトの例としてYouTubeやWikipedia、meeboなどが紹介されている。
