FASCINATOR（ファシネーター）はモトローラ社のデジタル音声通信が可能な無線機用に開発された秘話モジュールである[1][2]。1980年代のモトローラ社のデジタル無線機は暗号強度が弱いData Encryption Standard (DES) 方式の秘話モジュールが使われており、この代替として1980年代末に開発された。FASCINATORモジュールはDES方式のモジュールと差し替え可能で[2]、FASCINATORモジュールを組み込んだ無線機はアメリカ政府の機密情報の送受信用に用いることができた。

ファシネーター (fascinator) は、英国発祥[1]の女性及び女児用のヘッドドレスで軽く装飾性の高い頭部の装身具である。カチューシャ (アリスバンド) やヘアクリップ、櫛の上に羽根や花、ビーズ、リボン、レースなどをあしらったものなどがある[2][1]。クラウンと呼ばれる本体部分とつばとからなる伝統的な帽子とは構造が異なるが[3]、結婚式などのフォーマルな場で帽子の代わりに用いることができ、婦人用帽子と髪飾りとを合わせたような性格を持っている。夜のパーティなどで使用されるものはカクテルハット (Cocktail Hat) の名前でも呼ばれる。転じて、魅惑的な物や人物のこともいう。
