アミロイド(Amyloids)はある特定の構造を持つ水に溶けない繊維状のタンパク質である(詳細な定義は本文参照)。器官にアミロイドが異常に蓄積すると、アミロイド症などの神経変性疾患の原因になると言われている。
注釈
- ^ 今のところ、イーストプリオンに関連した病理学的報告は無い。しかし、報告された[PSI+]の存在下ではタンパク質合成に明らかな欠陥が生じるので、病理の原因となる可能性はある。このプリオンはイースト細胞の分裂や生存に影響を与えておらず、ある特定の遺伝子突然変異の存在を通してのみ確認されている。「#非疾患性・非機能性アミロイド」参照
