東入植地

東入植地（ひがしにゅうしょくち） (古ノルド語: Eystribyggð[3] ; グリーンランド語: Kujataa[4]) は、アイスランドのヴァイキングたちによって985年頃からグリーンランドに建設された3つの入植地（東・中・西）の一つである。東入植地はそれらの中で最初にして最大の場所であり、最盛期には4000人が暮らした。日本語では「東入植地」[5][6]のほか、「東定住地」[7]、「東地区」[8]、「東居留地」[9]、「東部居住地」[10]などとも訳されている。

- ^ 西入植地と東入植地の位置関係は、17世紀に東入植地を訪れようとしたデンマークとノルウェーの遠征隊が、名前に惑わされて見当違いな方向を探索する原因となり、目的地には辿り着けなかった（ジャレド・ダイアモンド 2005, pp. 340, 427）。
