多胎児

多胎児（たたいじ）とは、同じ母親の胎内で同時期に発育して生まれた複数の子供である。多生児ともいう。つまり、双子（ふたご）・三つ子などの総称だが、三つ子以上を意識した呼び方である（多胎児と表現する時は、双子を除いている場合もある）[1][2]。三つ子以上を限定して指す場合、スーパーツインズ（英語: supertwins）と言う。なお、類人猿（ヒト上科）の多胎妊娠および多胎出産は非常に珍しい[3]が、多胎は多くの哺乳類（犬や猫など）で一般的に観察される出生形態の一つである。
