フリン効果

フリン効果(フリンこうか、英語: Flynn effect)は、流動性知能と結晶化知能英語版の両方のテストスコアの大幅かつ長期にわたる上昇傾向のことを指す[1]受験者のサンプルを用いて知能指数(IQ)テストを最初に標準化する際には、慣例に則り、テスト結果の平均を100に設定し、標準偏差は15または16IQポイントに設定される。IQテストを改定する際には、通常、最初のテストの被験者よりも後に生まれた集団による新しいサンプルを使用して、再び標準化する。この場合も、結果平均が100に設定されるが、新しい被験者が古いテストを受けると、ほとんどの場合平均スコアは100を大幅に上回る。

  1. ^ 通常、集団平均の二標準偏差を超えるIQが有意と見做され、IQ130以上がvery superior、IQ70未満がintellectual deficit(知的障害)あるいはmental retardation(精神遅滞)と判定される[17][18][19]
  2. ^ 両者の年別平均値は一見相関関係がありそうであるが、ノルウェーでは富裕層のほうが背が高く、身長分布の上位半分のほうが身長の伸びが大きい傾向があるのに対し、IQの上昇は下位半分の方が大きいことから、フリンは栄養改善説では説明がつかないとしている[64]
