2つの物体を貼り合わせるために用いる物質。糊、ボンド(商品名)、ガム、膠(にかわ)などの総称。原料としては、従来はゼラチン、アラビアゴムなどの天然産物が用いられてきたが、最近は有機高分子系物質が主流になっている。とくに工業的に使われる接着剤は、ほとんど合成樹脂か合成ゴムである。大別すると溶剤系、水分散系、ホットメルト系、反応系などがある。自動車の生産ラインでは、有機溶剤による作業環境の問題、作業性などから現在は溶剤系の接着剤はほとんど使われていない。ねじ締め、ファスナー止めなど、ほかの結合方法に切り替えたり、ホットメルト系の接着剤に切り替えている。
