【概要】 病理学用語。細胞や細胞が集まった組織の細胞群の死滅のこと。このため時には組織の機能が果たせなくなる。例えば細胞が死ぬ主な原因は酸素不足である。色々なことで出血や梗塞で血流が途絶えるための病的な死である。生物学的なプログラムに添った死であるアポトーシスとは違っている。

壊死（えし）またはネクローシス（英: necrosis、ギリシア語のνέκρωσις〔死〕由来）とは、自己融解によって生物の組織の一部分が死んでいく様、または死んだ細胞の痕跡のことである[1]。
