The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners の略称で、ノルウェーのオスロに本部を構える独立系タンカー船主の組織であり、1984 年現在 1,400 隻、171 百万重量トンのタンカーが登録されている。設立の目的は会員の共通の利益の推進、他の国際的組織と連帯し共通する問題の討議に参加するなどであり、会員に対し、回状その他により文書委員会（Documentary Committee）、ワールドスケール委員会（Worldscale Committee）、安全技術委員会（Safety and Technical Committee）などにより、討議検討された課題・問題につき周知が図られている。
