循環報告（じゅんかんほうこく、英語: circular reporting）または虚偽の確認 (false confirmation) は、史料批判において、ある情報が多数の独立した典拠に由来するように見えながら、実際にはすべての大本は唯一の典拠に依存している状態のことである[1]。ほとんどの場合、問題は杜撰な情報収集の過程で起こる誤りに由来するが、一部の事例では最初の典拠が意図的に引き起こしていると考えられるものもある[2]。

「ウィキペディアへの批判」の記事における「循環報告」の解説
詳細は「循環報告」を参照 ウィキペディアが、ウィキペディアを典拠とする報道などを出典にすることで、循環的にウィキペディア発の虚偽情報を事実のように見せかけることがある。その場合、ウィキペディアの情報が虚偽である可能性を理解している人も、結果的にウィキペディア発の虚偽情報の担い手になることがありうる。ウィキペディアとOxford Textbook of Zoonoses（オックスフォード人獣共通感染症教科書）における、エボラ出血熱に関する記述を比較すると、内容の重複があるが、ウィキペディアの記載は2010年であるのに対し、The Oxford Textbook of Zoonosesは2011年版の書籍に同じ内容があることから、The Oxford Textbook of Zoonosesの著者がウィキペディアを「参照元」としていることが指摘されている（執筆者が同じである可能性もある）。
