ナノオーダーとは、単位に「ナノ」の接頭辞が付く程度の規模であることを示す語である。特に長さや大きさの尺度を示す際に用いられることが多い。
ナノはSI接頭辞で10のマイナス9乗、すなわち10億分の1を表す。長さの単位であるナノメートル（nm）は、分子1個の直径を表す場合などに用いられる単位である。ナノオーダーの語は、多くの場合、物体を数ナノメートル単位で加工する技術などを示す際に用いられる。ナノオーダーで物体を扱う超微細技術はナノテクノロジーとも呼ばれる。

ナノスコピックスケール（またはナノスケール）は通常、ナノテクノロジーに適用可能な大きさの構造を指し、通常は1 - 100ナノメートル (nm) 程度[1]。ナノメートル (nanometre) とは10-9 (10億分の1) メートルである。ナノスケールは（大まかに言えば）ほとんどの固体にとってはメゾスコピック領域の下限である。
