ラコニア号事件

ラコニア号事件（Laconia incident）は、第二次世界大戦中の大西洋で起こったイギリス海軍所属の軍隊輸送船ラコニア号の撃沈とその後の乗員救助の試みに関する一連の出来事である。1942年9月12日、ルドルフ・シャープ船長（Rudolph Sharp）以下、乗組員、乗客、兵員、捕虜等あわせて2,732人が搭乗していたラコニア号を西アフリカにてドイツ海軍の潜水艦U-156が撃沈した。U-156艦長ヴェルナー・ハルテンシュタイン少佐は昔ながらの海上捕獲法に従い、直ちにラコニア号乗員らの救助に着手するとともに、周辺海域に展開する連合国軍に対してその旨を放送した。また、間もなくして周辺に展開していた別のUボートも救援のために合流している。
